Dr Gareth Davies
Role: Chair & Medical Director Joined:1993
Gareth studied medicine at Sheffield University and is a consultant with extensive experience in pre-hospital care. He has worked with London’s Air Ambulance since 1993 and specialises in pre-hospital trauma care. Based at the Royal London Hospital (home of London’s Air Ambulance), he is also responsible for the education and training of staff, including doctors and paramedics.
Gareth has developed innovative surgical procedures and processes for anaesthesia for trauma victims and has been the lead consultant at many of London’s major incidents, including the Paddington Rail Disaster and the 7/7 Bombings.
He became a Trustee and Chair of the London’s Air Ambulance Charity in 2006 and is also a director of EMSC, a company formed to provide clinical governance to a number of UK Air Ambulances.

Dr Anne Weaver
Role: Lead Clinician Joined: 2004
Anne is Lead Clinician with London’s Air Ambulance and has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Care, at the Barts and the London NHS Trust since 2004. She is responsible for the day to day running of the service. Anne graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Medicine in 1995.
Anne has had extensive experience in trauma care, both in the UK and Australia, and has an interest in the ethics of trauma resuscitation. Anne has been a Trustee since 2005.

Dr Geoff Healy
Role: London's Air Ambulance Doctor
Dr Geoff Healy is an Anaesthetist and Pre-Hospital Care/Retrieval Physician from Sydney, Australia. He was a medical elective student with London’s Air Ambulance ten years ago, and was inspired so much, that he has spent the last ten years preparing to return. Dr. Healy has an interest in Paediatric and Neurosurgical Anaesthesia and Trauma Management, Ultrasound use in Critical Care, difficult airway management and medical teaching. He loves traveling, photography and the outdoors, and enjoys spending time with his family.

Dr Adam Fendius
Role: London's Air Ambulance Doctor
Adam Fendius has specialised in Anaesthesia since 2003. Prior to entering anaesthesia he worked as a doctor in accident and emergency and intensive care medicine.
He has a long term interest in pre-hospital care, trauma management and resuscitation and has a range of experience in this area from working as a doctor at major motor racing events to providing medical care and cover on expeditions to remote locations in India, Morocco and China. He is a Resuscitation Council UK accredited instructor in Advanced Life Support and is a Prehospital Care instructor for the British Association of Immediate Care (BASICS).
Adam is a keen outdoor sportsman, enjoying mountain biking, hill walking and climbing. He has on occasion been known to run up and down Scottish mountains in the pouring rain, freezing fog and howling gales for "fun".

Samantha McLaren
Role: Flight Paramedic
Sam joined the NHS is 1998 where she initially worked in hospital as an Operating Department Practitioner. She then left to go back to university to undertake the Paramedic Science degree before joining the London Ambulance Service in 2004. She has always wanted to be a Paramedic and joining the London's Air Ambulance team in September has been an amazing opportunity to develop further. In her spare time Sam loves to ski, having worked as a guide for a season in the French Alps and spends most winters wishing for snow!

Miguel Lopes
Role: Flight Paramedic
Miguel joined the London Ambulance Service in 1997 and qualified as a paramedic in 2002. He has been a team leader based at Greenwich for the last four years. He started his secondment with London's Air Ambulance in May 2011 and feels privileged to work for such a highly professional and dedicated team. Miguel said: "It is an excellent opportunity to increase my knowledge and ability to care for criically injured patients.

Johnny Crewsdon
Role: Pilot Joined: 2001
Johnny lives in France, just south of Bordeaux, when he is not flying for us. His hobbies include skydiving, drums and curry (although not all at the same time).

Toby Dobson
Role: Pilot Joined: 2009
Toby learnt to fly in 1997. Following this, he worked offshore with Bond and CHC for ten years. Toby also worked as a ski instructor in Austria for six years. Other than spending time with his wife and three boys, Toby enjoys stone masonry, building & conservation and fishing.

Dr Julian Thompson
Role: Executive Director and Doctor Joined: 2010
Julian qualified as a doctor from Oxford University in 2001 and trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in London and Oxford. He worked as a doctor on London’s Air Ambulance in 2010 and returned as an Executive Director in November 2011 to lead an enhancement of the capacity and funding of the service in partnership with senior figures in the City of London.
His interest in Pre Hospital Care has been developed through his experiences of working with the British Army in Afghanistan and leading mountaineering and exploratory expeditions across the world. In 2005 he reached the summit of Mount Everest and has combined this passion with a research interest in the response of the human body to extreme environments.

Diane Richens
Role: Head of Corporate Fundraising Joined: 2011
A graduate of the University of Kent, Diane has worked for multi-national organisations in both the private and third sector. With more than ten years’ experience in National Account Management and Business Development, Diane has built successful partnerships with high profile organisations in a wide range of sectors. Diane’s role with London’s Air Ambulance is to develop major donor giving, high level Corporate Partnerships and Sponsorship in support of the Charity. Social butterfly Diane enjoys nothing more than meeting new people especially whilst pursuing her love of travelling. And what better way to travel than on motorbike with her husband. Diane also has serious love of shoes!

Siobhra Murphy
Role: Public Relations Manager Joined: 2011
Siobhra (pronounced Sheefra) joined London’s Air Ambulance from Bishopsgate Communications, where she spent three years working in the City, specialising in Financial and Corporate communications for public companies – some in the healthcare sector. Previous to this, she worked in a Digital Marketing agency, where she gained her knowledge of utilising digital and social media platforms to increase brand awareness.
Siobhra’s key role within the Charity is to enhance awareness of the imperative service London’s Air Ambulance provides to the 10 million people who live, work and commute within the Capital. She looks after the Charity's communications and branding. True to her Irish roots, Siobhra loves to talk and socialise a lot.

Jane Marsh
Role: Events Manager Joined: 2012
Jane joined from the British Accreditation Council (BAC) where she was responsible for managing and developing BAC’s range of events and professional services as well as overseeing BAC’s relationship and communication with accredited institutions.
Jane’s role at London's Air Ambulance will be to manage existing charitable fundraising events as well as expanding the range of events that will contribute to the fundraising support of the charity.
Jane has a passion for skiing and outdoor activities, and can think of nothing better than spending time with friends in the mountains, by the coast or in the countryside.

Professor David Lockey
Role: Trustee and Research & Development Lead Joined: 1997
David grew up in London and then went to medical school in Newcastle upon Tyne. After qualifying he trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care medicine in the UK and abroad. He became a consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at Frenchay Hospital in 2001.
He first worked as a doctor for usin 1997 and has been a Consultant in Pre-hospital Care since 2000. In August 2011, Dr Lockey became the first UK Professor in Pre-hospital Care. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Bristol University, Honorary Consultant in Pre-hospital Care for four air ambulances, Trauma Lead for his trust and a consultant in the British Army.
He has been a Trustee since 2006 and leads on pre-hospital research and projects. He is also a director of EMSC, a company formed to provide clinical governance to a number of UK Air Ambulances.

Alex Tai
Role: Trustee Joined: 2005
Alex is a Director for the Virgin group of companies, the Group, which includes amongst its 200 companies, airlines and telecoms assets. The Group employs over 50,000 people and produces revenues in excess of $20Billion annually. Alex’s specific remit is Special projects working closely with the Virgin Group’s Chairman Sir Richard Branson.
Alex's experience in aviation operations and company management add to the strong Trustee experience levels.

Michael Weiss
Role: Trustee Joined: 2009 Michael is the Head of Investec’s Aviation team. He is an Aeronautical Engineer, and has over 18 years experience in aircraft finance with banks such as Swiss Bank Corporation and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group in both London and Singapore. He joined Investec in London in 2002 and has been instrumental in driving Investec’s aviation strategy, and building the bank’s aircraft financing franchise to one which is now recognised as a leading player in the aircraft financing sector. Michael has extensive experience in all forms of aircraft finance such as senior secured debt, export credit supported financings, tax advantaged leases, mezzanine debt and equity investments in aircraft, and is CEO of the Investec Global Aircraft Fund. He has established strong contacts with manufacturers, airlines, banks and leasing companies.

John Power
Role: Senior Helipad Fire Officer Joined: 1994
John Power attended White Hart Lane School in Wood Green, North London, where he spent far too much time looking out of the classroom window at aircraft than studying. He has always been interested in aviation.
John joined the Air Training Corps (ATC) 16F Wood Green and Hornsey, which helped him to get his foot in the door of the aviation business. After working in the aviation industry for four years, John joined London’s Air Ambulance. John enjoys working within such a close knit team and finds meeting ex patients and their families very rewarding.
John holds a hot air balloon private pilot’s licence and a fixed wing private pilot’s licence.

Liz Foster
Role: Patient Development Sister Joined: 1990
Liz is the Patient Development Sister. She maintains the pre-hospital trauma registry, co-ordinates audit and research projects, and is responsible for data analysis, which includes local publication of monthly activity figures and submission of financial data. Liz also co-ordinates both the Helicopter Crew Course [HCC] and the Advanced Trauma Life Support course [ATLS]. Liz is both a Registered General and Children’s Nurse with specialty courses in Emergency Nursing, Autonomous Practice and In-flight nursing. She has a BSc Nursing and an MSc Nursing from The City University, London. Previously Liz worked in Accident & Emergency, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics and as an In-Flight Nurse.

Dr Dan Nevin
Role: London's Air Ambulance Doctor
Dan Nevin is a Specialist Anaesthetist with an avid interest and extensive background in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care and Pre Hospital Care. He hails from Johannesburg, South Africa and has been in the UK for the last year doing HEMS work, most recently at the Royal London. His particular interests are in Resuscitation, Airway Management and Critical Care in the Pre Hospital environment. Socially, he enjoys international travel, and sport.

Dr Richard Lyon
Role: London's Air Ambulance Doctor
Richard is a Registrar in Emergency Medicine. Born in Luxembourg, he became a volunteer fireman at the age of 16 and developed an early interest in emergency care. He graduated with Honours from Edinburgh University and recently completed a unique MD thesis on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, working closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service to improve the quality of pre-hospital resuscitation. Richard’s interests include pre-hospital care, event and expedition medicine. He has taken part in expeditions across the globe, including mountain biking to Camp II on Mt Everest. In his spare time Richard enjoys the mountains of Scotland or kitesurfing.

Graham Chalk
Role Lead Paramedic Joined: 1997
Graham joined the London Ambulance Service in 1988 and started as a Flight Paramedic with London’s Air Ambulance in 1997 on secondment, returning to life as a Motorcycle Paramedic just over a year later. Having always wanted to return, he had the opportunity in 2004 when the position of Lead Paramedic for London’s Air Ambulance and Specialist Response Coordinator for the London Ambulance Service arose. His responsibilities include recruitment and training of new Flight Paramedics, managing the Paramedic team, and acting as a link between the LAS and LAA. When not working, his passion is sailing his boat. He lives on a houseboat in Sussex.

Ciaran McKenna
Role: Flight Paramedic
Ciaran, from Armagh in Ireland, came to England to study Paramedic Science in 2001. He qualified as a paramedic in 2005 and normally works as a team leader in Kenton, North West London. His aim has always been to work with London's Air Ambulance which he has now accomplished, having started in July 2011. Outside of work, he enjoys travelling around Ireland and France with his wife and 2 kids.

Rob Pennell
Role: Chief Pilot Joined: 1999
Rob had his first flying lesson in a fixed wing aeroplane in 1989, aged 17. After leaving school he spent 6 months raising funds for the RAF’s 50th Anniversary Battle of Britain Appeal and a further 6 months as a farm hand in New Zealand prior to joining the Military. Rob was injured in a road traffic accident putting an immediate stop to his plans of becoming an Army Helicopter Pilot.
Following 2 years of convalescence, Rob was able to fly again and went on to gain a ‘frozen’ ATPL(H). Soon after, Rob secured his first job as a professional pilot with Yorkshire Helicopters. This was followed by several years employed as a line pilot for Bond Offshore Helicopters flying in support of the North Sea oil and gas industry. Here he gained invaluable experience and his instrument rating. In 1999 an opportunity to join London’s Air Ambulance presented itself and Rob jumped at the chance and has been with London’s Air Ambulance ever since, the last 5 years in the role of Chief Pilot. He has in excess of 5,000 flying hours (4500 multi engine).

Neil Jeffers
Role: Pilot Joined: 2005
Neil started flying helicopters in 1997. He has worked in a number of areas of flying including Commercial Air Transport and Aerial Filming but has spent most of his time Instructing and Examining. In his spare time he enjoys running and in September he ran 8 marathons in 6 days through the deserts of Jordan to raise money and awareness for us.

David Oakley

David is the business brains behind the Charity. As a qualified accountant, he ensures the Charity maximises all fundraising activities. His role sees him working alongside the Trustees on the future plans of London’s Air Ambulance and certifying the development of the service. Previously from the business and financial services world, working with companies such as Rivington Street Holdings PLC, he has specialised in bringing small companies to market and growing their value. A family man at heart, David cares for shooting, sailing and trying to keep fit to keep up with his two grown up sons. He enjoys serving the London community as Charity Director for London’s Air Ambulance.

Christine Margetts
Role: Fundraising Manager Joined: 1997
Christine was the first person employed to fundraise for the charity in 1997. If you need to know about a fundraising matter, she is your lady! Largely working on the Gala Ball, golf events and general managing of the fundraising office, Christine is passionate about raising funds for the cause and development of the charity. Christine began working for the NHS in the School of Physiotherapy, where her fundraising interests began; she then became a medical secretary before taking up the post of Fundraising Manager. In her first task for the physiotherapy department she raised £4,000 from a parachute jump, enabling the purchase of a treadmill, and when she was the landlady of a pub, she also gained experience raising funds from her legendary quiz nights! When not working for the charity she enjoys holidaying at her house in Spain and riding her Harley-Davidson with her husband.

Stephen Armstrong
Role: City Fundraiser Joined:
Stephen works part-time for London's Air Ambulance, raising funds from grant-making trusts and companies. He has been a fundraiser for 15 years mainly for international development charities. Stephen enjoys travelling and has visited over 35 countries. He has also lived and worked in Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, South Africa, New Zealand, Finland and Spain. He loves the fact that London's Air Ambulance is one of the few London charities that is there for every Londoner regardless of their status.

Jodie Potter
Role: Lottery Team Leader Joined: 2010
Jodie started as a Fundraising Assistant. Since then she has successfully grown the London's Air ambulance Lottery, which she now looks after exclusively. Jodie is passionate about fundraising and started working as a volunteer fundraiser in 2000 for various different causes. Since completing university in 2007, she has spent a lot of her time traveling and completing internships for Starfish Greathearts Foundation and Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity. A couple of her crazy fundraising missions have found her trekking the Grand Canyon and walking 60km in the South Downs in a day! She is currently seeking her latest fundraising challenge.

Kirsty Whipp

Kirsty recruits and manages our volunteers as well as coordinating all of our collections and donation pots. Prior to Kirsty’s graduation from university she completed an internship at the charity, YouthNet. On completion of her internship, which saw her help recruit volunteers for the Great North Run, Kirsty realised she wanted to build a career in the third sector.

Paul Lavender
Role: Trustee Joined: 2009 Paul Lavender is a chartered accountant with a wide range of financial and commercial experience of private and public companies. Paul is currently Group Finance Director for AIM quoted LitComp Plc – a group of companies which includes Elite Business Development Limited, Elite Litigation Services and Elite Insurance Company Limited. In 2002 he worked on the initial Ofex flotation of LitComp in 2002 and its subsequent move to AIM in 2006. He has also been involved in fundraising for LitComp. He is also currently a Director of United Bright Bar Co Limited, a family concern which produces bright drawn steel. Mr Lavender qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and has an Institute of Chartered Accountants Corporate Finance qualification.

Maxine Barnes
Role: Trustee Joined: 2008
Maxine founded Bishopsgate Communications in 1999 having spent over 10 years advising UK companies on their business and financial communications. She has extensive experience in the London market and a strong understanding of City transactions and strategic communications.
Maxine has a demonstrable track record advising the ‘Growth Company’ arena and has been responsible for advising on numerous IPOs, particularly on AIM. Maxine began her career in Naval and Military communications before moving into Financial PR and has since built up a strong portfolio of clients operating in a wide range of sectors. Maxine is well-known and respected throughout the City and has an excellent list of contacts in the UK market.

Paul Smith
Role: Helipad & Driver Standards Manager Joined: 1994
As Helipad Manager, it is Paul's responsibility to make sure that the Helipad is serviceable for air ambulances to bring patients to the Royal London Hospital. Paul works very closely with the Chief Pilot and the Senior Fire Officer. As Driving Standards Manager, he Manages the fleet of Rapid Response Cars and trains the Paramedics to drive them. When Paramedics join London's Air Ambulance they have to undergo five days of specialist driver training. Paul also oversees vehicle maintenance.

Michael Horton
Role: Fire Officer Joined: 2006
Michael cycles 14 miles, not including the train ride, to get to work each day. He is also a Volunteer Fire Fighter at The Shuttleworth Collection and Yorkshire Air Museum, providing fire cover for air shows and other events.
Michael is a scuba diving Instructor and a keen amateur photographer, on land and underwater.
