Londons Air Ambulance - become a volunteer

As a charity, we rely heavily on the support from the public in many different ways.  Our volunteers are a vital cog in the wheel and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Why volunteer for London’s Air Ambulance

Apart from helping a life saving service, some of the reasons people get involved are:

  • Between jobs - and a couple of months to spare
  • Retirement – wish to put years of expertise to good use
  • Specialist skills – which can make a valuable contribution to our work
  • Spare time – a few hours a week to try something new and meet new people
  • Students - course placement or work experience

At the moment we particularly need volunteers in the following areas:

  • To attend collections at train stations, supermarkets and shopping centres;
  • To attend community events as a charity representative and talk to people on our behalf, sell our merchandise and promote our events;
  • To organise fundraising events within your community;
  • To collect and distribute our collection pots;
  • To man our charity shop – based at The Royal London Hospital

Whether you can donate a few hours a year, a week or a month, every little helps and we would love to hear from you.

To register your interest please fill out and return our enquiry form and someone will be in touch soon.

If you are unsure and just wish to discuss possibilities please get in contact with our Volunteer Coordinator, Kirsty Whipp, 020 7943 1302 for an informal chat.

Our volunteers

We are extremely grateful to all our volunteers for all their help over the years.

Here are some of their stories:

Londons Air Ambulance - volunteer profile

Elaine works in our shop and has been a volunteer for over three years.

“I wanted to volunteer for London’s Air Ambulance because I wanted to give something back to the London community.
I have been here for 3 years and enjoy meeting ex-patients and listening to their extraordinary stories. I am very proud to be a volunteer of his crucial service to Londoners”

Christine is one of our superstar collectors.  She has been with us for 4 years and attends a few collections a month.  She loves collecting as she meets a lot of new people.

“Upon retirement from many years in retail
I was looking for some charity work, and spotted an advertisement for Volunteer Collectors for London’s Air Ambulance.
I enjoy working with the public and find it
very satisfying to work for a charity that has touched the lives of so many people.
I hope to continue this rewarding work for some time to come and where I can encourage others to join the London’s
Air Ambulance collection team – it really
is worthwhile.”

Sylvia has been a volunteer administrator with us for 3 years, since her retirement.  When Sylvia first started she worked just one day a week but as the workload has increased she now works every Monday and Wednesday.

“After a lifetime in the City I was impressed by the hard work and dedication shown by the staff and wanted to help by sharing my expertise. I am glad to have the opportunity to help where I can.”

Jo has been a volunteer administrator with us since August 2011.

Her last position was as an Accounts Assistant at the Business Design Centre, which she left to fulfil her dream of working within the field of fundraising.

"I knew of the work of London's Air Ambulance as I am local to The Royal London Hospital and I had seen the charity shop on numerous occasions.

"Working alongside the fundraising team has established my desire to become a permanent member of a fundraising team and I am glad to be helping such a crucial and dedicated team."
