Why volunteer for London’s Air Ambulance

Getting involved in volunteering with London's Air Ambulance is a great way to develop and demonstrate your skills and its also really rewarding and fun!

London's Air Ambulance provides pre-hospital medical care to victims of serious injury throughout London. Volunteers form an essential part of our team; they help us spread awareness of the unique service we provide and raise the vital funds we need.

As a charity, we rely heavily on the support from the public in many different ways.

Get involved as a volunteer and you will have the opportunity to:

We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:

  • Office Volunteers based in our fundraising office, Whitechapel
  • Events Volunteers
  • Photographers
  • Digital Media Assistants
  • Community Talk Ambassadors
  • Collection Box Coordinators
  • Volunteer Drivers to deliver/collect charity boxes using fundraising car
  • Donation Collectors

How can I become a volunteer?

Complete application on volunteer section of our website using our electronic form or alternatively download our volunteer application form and return it via email info@londonsairambulance.co.uk or post to London’s Air Ambulance, The Helipad, Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London E1 1BB.  

Call Kirsty our volunteer coordinator on 020 7943 1302 who will take all of your contact details and send you the relevant forms and information by email or post.

How long does the application process take?

Once your application form has been received, our Volunteer Co-ordinator will contact you to arrange a time for you to come in, meet the fundraising team and find out all about volunteering for us. At that meeting we can then discuss when you can start and get on board.

How long until I can start volunteering?

It will depend entirely on you, the volunteering opportunities available and your existing commitments as to when you start volunteering for us.

Do I need any experience?

We do not require any of our volunteers to have any specific fundraising or volunteering experience. All that we ask our volunteers is to:

  • Be committed to the ethos and values of London’s Air Ambulance
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be honest, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Have the ability to travel into the fundraising office at the Royal London Hospital when necessary or other locations dependant on the volunteer activity

Will I be interviewed?

Yes, after we have received your application form we will invite you for an informal discussion about volunteering for us.

Do I have to volunteer on my own or can I bring friends?

We welcome the involvement of anyone fitting our volunteer criteria and would welcome you introducing your friends, family and work colleagues to the Charity.  

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18?

Unfortunately no. We do require our volunteers to be 18 and over.

What training and support will I be given?

You will be given full training and information about the Charity before you begin volunteering for us, with the full support of a designated member of staff.

Can I claim expenses?

Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to the cost of £6 per day.

How much time do I have to volunteer for?

We only ask volunteers to give up as much time as they can spare, whether that’s a few hours per week, a month or a whole year.

Will volunteering affect my benefits?

No, as long as you are still meeting the requirements of your benefits.

Sylvia has been a volunteer administrator with us for 3 years, since her retirement.  When Sylvia first started she worked just one day a week but as the workload has increased she now works every Monday and Wednesday.

Jo has been a volunteer administrator with us since August 2011.
 
Her last position was as an Accounts Assistant at the Business Design Centre, which she left to fulfil her dream of working within the field of fundraising.
